Frodo Baggins carries the One Ring into Mordor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle Bilbo Baggins and accepts the task of taking it away from the Shire. The Council of Elrond decides that the Ring must be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom, the place where Sauron originally forged it. Frodo therefore travels through Middle-earth toward Mordor with the Ring hidden and protected as best he can.
He is accompanied for much of the journey by Samwise Gamgee, who becomes his closest companion. Frodo also receives help from the Fellowship and from figures such as Gollum, although Gollum’s role is dangerous and unpredictable.
Sam is sometimes credited with carrying the Ring because he briefly bears it after Shelob attacks Frodo. That temporary responsibility does not change the central quest: Frodo is the Ring-bearer who takes it to Mount Doom. The final destruction results from Gollum’s fall, rather than from a simple deliberate act by Frodo.
