Steve Jobs attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, before leaving without completing a degree.
Jobs enrolled at Reed in 1972, but he formally dropped out after one semester. He continued attending selected classes as a non-degree student for a period, choosing courses that interested him rather than following a conventional degree program.
One of those courses was calligraphy, which later influenced his interest in typefaces and typography. Jobs often connected that experience with the Macintosh’s attention to fonts and visual design, although the commercial impact came years after his time at Reed.
Reed College is a liberal arts college, not a California institution; it is located in Oregon. Jobs later returned to the Bay Area, where he worked with Steve Wozniak and became involved in the early personal-computer industry.
