Which company did Steve Jobs sell Pixar to in 2006?

The story behind the answer

Steve Jobs sold Pixar to The Walt Disney Company in 2006.

The all-stock transaction was announced in January 2006 and completed in May of that year. Disney acquired Pixar in a deal valued at approximately $7.4 billion, making Pixar part of Disney’s entertainment portfolio.

Jobs became Disney’s largest individual shareholder and joined Disney’s board of directors. Pixar chief executive Ed Catmull and chief creative officer John Lasseter also gained important leadership roles within Disney’s animation operations.

The deal is sometimes described as Disney buying an independent animation studio, but Pixar had earlier been a computer-graphics division connected to Lucasfilm. Jobs purchased that division in 1986, and it later developed into the Pixar known for Toy Story and other films.
