Which British girl group released the 1981 hit single “Shy Boy”?

The story behind the answer

Bananarama released the 1981 hit single “Shy Boy.”

The London group was founded by Keren Woodward, Sara Dallin, and Siobhan Fahey. “Shy Boy” was one of Bananarama’s early singles and helped establish the trio’s bright, accessible pop style in the United Kingdom.

The song appeared on the group’s debut album, Deep Sea Skiving, released in 1983. Bananarama later became known for songs such as “Cruel Summer,” “Venus,” and “Love in the First Degree,” giving the group one of the most recognizable catalogues of 1980s British pop.

“Shy Boy” can be confused with later Bananarama hits because it predates their biggest international successes. The group’s original lineup changed when Fahey left in 1988, but the single belongs to the original trio era.
