Beyoncé’s single “Crazy in Love” features Jay-Z and samples the Chi-Lites song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).”
Released in 2003, the track was the lead single from Dangerously in Love. Its prominent horn hook comes from the 1970s Chi-Lites recording, while producer Rich Harrison built a new arrangement around that sample. Jay-Z contributes a rap verse, creating one of the best-known early collaborations between the two artists.
The song became Beyoncé’s first solo Billboard Hot 100 number-one single. It also won Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The title is sometimes confused with “Drunk in Love,” another Beyoncé and Jay-Z collaboration from a later album. “Crazy in Love” is distinctive for its horn-driven opening, its 2003 release, and its connection to Beyoncé’s solo debut.
