J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the 2018 film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. It is the second film in the Fantastic Beasts series and continues the story of magizoologist Newt Scamander.
The film was directed by David Yates, who directed several Harry Potter films, but directing and screenplay credits are different roles. Rowling wrote the script, while Yates directed the finished movie. David Heyman was among the producers.
The story expands the wider wizarding world by focusing on Gellert Grindelwald, Albus Dumbledore, Newt, and their allies. It is set decades before the main Harry Potter story and is not an adaptation of one of Rowling’s seven Harry Potter novels.
The film was released in 2018 and followed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which Rowling also wrote. The series was planned as a five-film story, though only three films had been released by 2022.
