Which author co-created the mythos for FromSoftware’s Elden Ring?

The story behind the answer

George R. R. Martin co-created the mythos for FromSoftware’s Elden Ring.

Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, wrote the game’s overarching mythology and backstory before the events experienced by the player. FromSoftware then developed the setting, characters, history, and gameplay around that foundation.

Hidetaka Miyazaki has explained that Martin’s contribution focused on the world’s mythological framework rather than writing all of the game’s dialogue or directing its production. The final game therefore combines Martin’s fantasy worldbuilding with FromSoftware’s distinctive environmental storytelling.

Martin is not the game’s director, developer, or publisher. Those roles belong primarily to Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware, and Bandai Namco Entertainment respectively. His involvement is best described as a collaboration on the game’s backstory and mythos.
