Which athlete won the first Olympic gold medal in women's ski jumping at Sochi 2014?

The story behind the answer

Carina Vogt won the first Olympic gold medal in women's ski jumping at Sochi 2014.

Vogt represented Germany in the inaugural women's normal-hill individual competition. She scored 247.4 points over two jumps, narrowly beating Austria's Daniela Iraschko-Stolz, who took silver. France's Coline Mattel won bronze. The event was held at the RusSki Gorki Jumping Center.

Women's ski jumping had been included at the World Championships before reaching the Olympic programme. Its Olympic debut followed a long campaign by athletes and officials seeking equal recognition for the discipline. Vogt's victory therefore had historical importance beyond the medal itself: she became the first woman listed as an Olympic ski-jumping champion.
