Which Assassin’s Creed game introduced the Assassin Brotherhood’s multiplayer mode?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood introduced the Assassin’s Creed series’ multiplayer mode.

Released in 2010, Brotherhood added a competitive multiplayer component alongside its single-player story. In the main campaign, Ezio Auditore works in Rome to rebuild the Assassin Brotherhood and oppose the Borgia family. The multiplayer mode used a separate premise in which Templars trained operatives through the Abstergo entertainment system.

Players selected specialized characters and hunted targets while trying to remain undetected by their own pursuers. This created a stealth-focused form of multiplayer built around disguises, timing, observation, and social crowds rather than conventional gunfights. Assassin’s Creed Revelations continued the multiplayer approach, while later entries changed or removed it. The game’s title is sometimes confused with Assassin’s Creed II because it continues Ezio’s story, but Brotherhood is the entry that first introduced the series’ multiplayer mode.
