What year was Assassin’s Creed Origins, the game set in ancient Egypt, released?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed Origins, the game set in ancient Egypt, was released in 2017.

Ubisoft Montreal developed Origins, which launched in October 2017 for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The story follows Bayek of Siwa, a Medjay who becomes involved in the origins of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood.

The game is set primarily in Ptolemaic Egypt during the first century BCE. Important historical figures include Cleopatra VII and Julius Caesar, although the plot combines real history with fictional conspiracies and characters. Origins significantly expanded the series’ role-playing elements, adding character levels, equipment rarity, quests, and a large explorable map. Its title refers to the beginnings of the organization and its conflict with the Order of the Ancients, rather than to the literal creation of every Assassin practice.
