Which American girl group released “Happiness” as its debut single in 2014?

The story behind the answer

Red Velvet released “Happiness” as its debut single in 2014.

The South Korean girl group debuted under SM Entertainment on August 1, 2014, with “Happiness.” The song introduced the original four-member lineup of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy.

“Happiness” used a bright electronic-pop sound and colorful visual presentation. Yeri later joined the group in 2015, expanding the lineup to five members for subsequent releases.

Red Velvet is sometimes confused with other SM Entertainment girl groups, especially Girls’ Generation and f(x). Girls’ Generation debuted in 2007, while f(x) debuted in 2009. Red Velvet’s debut track was “Happiness,” not the later singles “Ice Cream Cake,” “Dumb Dumb,” or “Red Flavor.”
