Which Airbus narrow-body family introduced the A321XLR long-range variant?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus A320 family introduced the A321XLR long-range variant.

The A321XLR is a member of the stretched A321neo line, itself part of the A320 family. Airbus developed it for routes needing more range than the A321LR while retaining the operating advantages of a single-aisle aircraft. Its additional centre fuel tank and other changes support longer missions.

The A320 family began with the A320 and later expanded to include the shorter A318 and A319 and the longer A321. The neo generation added new engines and aerodynamic improvements, while the A321XLR extended the family’s range-focused capabilities.

The aircraft is intended to connect city pairs that may not support a larger wide-body jet. It is therefore positioned between conventional narrow-body operations and some smaller wide-body missions, although actual range depends on payload, configuration and operating conditions.
