Which Airbus aircraft was the first to use the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engine in airline service?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus A320neo was the first Airbus aircraft to use the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engine in airline service.

The A320neo entered commercial service with Lufthansa in 2016, using the PW1100G-JM, a member of Pratt & Whitney’s geared turbofan PW1000G family. The geared architecture allows the fan and turbine to operate at different optimal speeds.

The A320neo also offers the CFM International LEAP-1A engine, so not every A320neo has a Pratt & Whitney powerplant. Engine selection depends on the airline’s order and configuration.

The Airbus A220 also uses a PW1000G-family engine, but it entered service later than the A320neo. The A330neo uses Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines instead.
