Which Airbus aircraft was the first to use the CFM56 engine?
Answer
Airbus A320
Answer
Airbus A320
The Airbus A320 was the first Airbus aircraft to use the CFM56 engine.
The CFM56-5A powered the A320 and was one of the aircraft’s available engine options when the type entered service. CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aviation and Safran Aircraft Engines, developed the CFM56 family for commercial and military applications.
The CFM56 was also used on later Airbus A319 and A321 versions, as well as on the Airbus A340-300. The A320 family could use engines from different manufacturers, so not every A320 has a CFM56. Other A320-family engine options included the International Aero Engines V2500 and, on the neo family, the CFM LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G.
