The Airbus A380 was the first Airbus aircraft to feature a full-length double-deck passenger cabin.
Unlike aircraft with a small upper-deck section, the A380 has two passenger decks extending through most of the fuselage. This arrangement gives the aircraft an exceptionally large cabin and enables airlines to configure it for very high passenger capacity.
The A380 made its first flight in 2005 and entered commercial service with Singapore Airlines in 2007. Its design targeted busy hub-to-hub routes where airport slots were limited and airlines could fill a very large aircraft.
The A380's full-length upper deck is a key distinction from the Boeing 747, whose upper deck is shorter. Airbus eventually ended A380 production in 2021 as airlines increasingly preferred flexible twin-engine wide-body aircraft, but the type remains an iconic landmark in commercial aviation.
