Which Airbus aircraft received the first commercial flight of the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus A320neo received the first commercial flight of the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine.

The PW1100G is a geared turbofan developed for the A320neo family. Its reduction gearbox allows the large fan and the engine core to operate at different speeds, improving efficiency and reducing fuel burn compared with earlier-generation engines.

Lufthansa operated the first commercial A320neo service with PW1100G-powered aircraft in January 2016. The engine is one of two major powerplant options for the A320neo family, alongside the CFM International LEAP-1A.

The PW1100G is often referred to as the GTF, meaning geared turbofan. It should not be confused with the PW1500G used on the Airbus A220 or the PW1900G used on Embraer’s E190-E2 family; those are related members of the same geared-turbofan engine family.
