Which Airbus aircraft is known by the nickname “Super Transporter”?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus Beluga is known by the nickname “Super Transporter.”

The Beluga is a specialized cargo aircraft developed to move large aircraft components between Airbus production sites. Its unusually large, rounded upper fuselage gives it a profile resembling a beluga whale, leading to its widely used nickname. The aircraft is based on the Airbus A300-600 airframe and is officially designated the A300-600ST, where ST means Super Transporter.

Airbus operated the Beluga fleet as part of its distributed manufacturing system. Wings, fuselage sections, and other major components are produced in different European locations and then transported to final assembly lines.

The Beluga is different from the newer BelugaXL. The BelugaXL is based on the Airbus A330 and has greater internal volume and payload capability. Both aircraft serve Airbus logistics, but the original Beluga is the A300-based model.
