Which Airbus aircraft family includes the A310 and A300?

The story behind the answer

The Airbus A300 family includes the A300 and its shorter A310 derivative.

The A300 was Airbus’s first production airliner and the world’s first twin-engine wide-body jet airliner. Airbus later developed the A310 as a shorter-fuselage derivative with a redesigned wing, a smaller passenger capacity and updated systems. Both aircraft share the same basic wide-body lineage.

The A300 family name is sometimes used narrowly for the original A300 or broadly for the A300 and A310. The A310 also became an important freighter, tanker and government-transport platform after its passenger career.

These aircraft predated the later A330 and A340 families. Although the A330 eventually replaced the A300 in Airbus’s commercial product line, the earlier family established Airbus as a manufacturer of large passenger aircraft and helped shape its later two-crew cockpit philosophy.
