Which actor voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars movies?

Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars movies.

Larry the Cable Guy is the stage name of comedian and actor Daniel Lawrence Whitney. His performance gives Mater a distinctive Southern-accented comic voice, helping make the rusty tow truck one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.

Mater is introduced in Cars as Lightning McQueen’s friend in Radiator Springs. He later becomes central to Cars 2, where his mistaken identity places him at the center of an international spy plot. Larry the Cable Guy reprised the role in Cars 3 and in multiple Cars television specials and shorts.

A frequent mix-up is assigning Mater’s voice to Owen Wilson, who voices Lightning McQueen, or to John Ratzenberger, who voices Mack. Larry the Cable Guy is the performer credited for Mater, while “Mater” is a wordplay reference to “tomato,” reflecting the character’s rural humor and appearance.
