Emma Watson portrayed Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter films based on J.K. Rowling’s books.
Watson was cast as Hermione when she was nine years old, after auditions for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She played the character from the first film, released in 2001, through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, released in 2011.
Hermione is one of Harry’s closest friends and is known for her academic ability, preparation and determination. Watson’s performance made the role internationally recognizable and earned her major young-performer awards during the film series.
Other young actors in the films played important characters but not Hermione. Bonnie Wright portrayed Ginny Weasley, Evanna Lynch played Luna Lovegood and Katie Leung played Cho Chang. Watson later studied at Brown University and became a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.
