The 2020 J.K. Rowling children’s book featuring Jack and the Ickabog is The Ickabog.
The Ickabog is a standalone fairy tale set in the fictional kingdom of Cornucopia. Its story follows children including Bert, Daisy, and Roderick, while legends about the mysterious Ickabog shape the kingdom’s politics and fears. Jack is among the young characters connected with the story.
Rowling wrote the tale years earlier, while working on Harry Potter, and later revised it for publication. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she released it online in installments before the printed edition appeared in November 2020.
Children were invited to submit illustrations for the story, and selected artwork appeared in published editions. Rowling donated royalties from the book to projects supporting groups affected by the pandemic and other vulnerable communities.
