Which 2016 stage play continues J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter story as Harry’s son begins at Hogwarts?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the 2016 stage play that continues J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter story as Harry’s son begins at Hogwarts.

The play is set nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Its story follows Harry as an adult employee of the Ministry of Magic and his son Albus Severus Potter, who begins his own education at Hogwarts. Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, is also central to the plot.

The work was written by Jack Thorne, directed by John Tiffany, and based on an original story by Thorne, Tiffany, and Rowling. It premiered in London’s West End in 2016 and was published as a script rather than as one of Rowling’s seven Harry Potter novels.

That format is an important distinction. Cursed Child is an official stage continuation of the Wizarding World, but its printed edition is a playscript and not an eighth novel.
