Which 2016 stage play continues Harry Potter’s story as an adult?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continues Harry Potter’s story as an adult.

The play is set nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It follows Harry as an adult employee of the Ministry of Magic and his son Albus Severus Potter, who begins at Hogwarts alongside Scorpius Malfoy.

The script is credited to Jack Thorne, based on an original story by Thorne, J.K. Rowling, and John Tiffany. It is therefore not a prose novel written solely by Rowling. The original production was directed by Tiffany and opened in London’s West End in 2016.

The play was originally staged in two parts, although some productions have used a shorter single-part version. Its story expands the next generation of the wizarding families while revisiting ideas about parental expectations, friendship, and time. It should not be confused with a ninth Harry Potter novel.
