Which 2016 film written by J.K. Rowling begins the Fantastic Beasts film series?
Answer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them begins the film series written by J.K. Rowling. The fantasy film was released in 2016 and follows magizoologist Newt Scamander in 1920s New York.
The movie expands Rowling’s wizarding world beyond the Harry Potter storyline. Its plot starts when magical creatures escape from Newt’s enchanted case, drawing him into trouble involving the Magical Congress of the United States of America and a dangerous magical force.
The title comes from a Hogwarts textbook that Rowling originally published as a charity companion book in 2001. In the fictional world, the book is attributed to Newt Scamander. The 2016 film turns that in-world reference into the name of a new screen story.
The film stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt. It was followed by Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018 and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022.
