Which 2016 film series did J.K. Rowling launch as its screenwriter?

J.K. Rowling launched the Fantastic Beasts film series as its screenwriter.

The first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was released in 2016. It follows Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who arrives in New York with a case containing magical creatures. The story is set decades before Harry Potter’s time at Hogwarts.

Rowling wrote the screenplay for the first film and its sequels, expanding the wizarding world beyond the original novels. The series also explores the history of Albus Dumbledore and his conflict with the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.

The film title was adapted from a fictional Hogwarts textbook mentioned in the Harry Potter books. The movie series should not be confused with the short companion book itself, which is a catalogue-style work rather than a narrative screenplay.
