Which 2016 film received its screenplay from J.K. Rowling and introduced Newt Scamander?

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the 2016 film for which J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay and which introduced Newt Scamander.

The film is set in the wizarding world but takes place decades before the main Harry Potter story. Its central character, Newt Scamander, is a British magizoologist who arrives in New York with a case containing magical creatures.

Rowling wrote the screenplay directly rather than adapting one of the seven Harry Potter novels. The film was inspired by the fictional Hogwarts textbook of the same name, which was published as a charity companion book in 2001.

The film began a separate series of wizarding-world movies. Its sequels are The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore, so those titles are distinct from the 2016 original.
