Which 2016 film did J.K. Rowling write as a spin-off from the Harry Potter wizarding world?
Answer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The 2016 film J.K. Rowling wrote as a spin-off from the Harry Potter wizarding world was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The film follows Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who arrives in 1920s New York with a case containing magical creatures. It expands the fictional universe beyond Harry’s school years and introduces the earlier history of characters and conflicts that connect to the wizarding world.
Rowling wrote the screenplay, making it her screenwriting debut. The title comes from a fictional textbook attributed to Newt Scamander that appears in the Harry Potter books. Unlike the textbook, the film is an original story rather than a direct adaptation of a school reference book.
The film was released in 2016 and became the first entry in a planned Fantastic Beasts film series. Its sequels are The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore.
