Cars 2 is the second installment in Pixar’s Cars movie series.
Released in 2011, Cars 2 shifts the franchise from the small-town racing story of the first film to an international adventure. Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix, while Mater becomes involved in a spy plot involving secret agents, a dangerous fuel conspiracy, and the criminal mastermind Miles Axlerod.
John Lasseter and Brad Lewis directed Cars 2. The film features locations inspired by cities including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London, giving the series a much broader setting than Radiator Springs.
Cars 2 is sometimes confused with Cars 3 because both films continue Lightning’s career. Cars 3, released in 2017, returns to a more personal sports drama about changing technology, aging champions, and mentorship.
