What was the title of Wilson Phillips’ debut studio album, released in 1990?

The story behind the answer

Wilson Phillips released their self-titled debut studio album, Wilson Phillips, in 1990.

The album introduced the trio of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips. Its songs were written and performed by singers connected to major California pop-rock families: Carnie and Wendy are daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, while Chynna is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas.

Wilson Phillips became a commercial success in the United States. It produced three Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles: “Hold On,” “Release Me” and “You’re in Love.” The album itself was certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The title is sometimes confused with the group’s later releases, including Shadows and Light from 1992. The 1990 album is simply titled Wilson Phillips, matching the group’s name.
