What was the title of the Buffy spin-off series centered on Angel?

The story behind the answer

The Buffy spin-off centered on Angel was titled Angel.

Angel is an American supernatural drama created by Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt. It premiered on The WB on October 5, 1999, after Angel had left Sunnydale at the end of Buffy’s third season. David Boreanaz reprised the role of the ensouled vampire, now pursuing redemption in Los Angeles.

The spin-off gave Angel a different setting and tone from its parent series. He formed Angel Investigations with Doyle and Cordelia Chase, eventually joined by characters including Wesley Wyndam-Pryce and Charles Gunn. Their mission was summed up by the phrase "help the helpless," while much of the longer story involved demons, prophecy, and the sinister law firm Wolfram & Hart.

Angel ran for five seasons and 110 episodes, concluding on May 19, 2004. Viewers sometimes confuse the title with character or setting names from the Buffy universe, such as Sunnydale or Faith, but those are not the name of the spin-off. Angel also retained strong links to Buffy through recurring characters and crossover storylines.
