What was the title of the 2016 film screenplay written by J.K. Rowling?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The film was inspired by the fictional Hogwarts textbook of the same name, which Rowling had originally published as a charity book in 2001. The movie expands that small in-universe text into a story set in the wizarding world decades before Harry Potter’s time.

Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, a British magizoologist who arrives in New York in 1926 with a case containing magical creatures. The film introduces a new group of characters and broadens the setting beyond Britain.

It was Rowling’s first produced film screenplay. The movie became the first entry in a film series planned around Newt and the rise of the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Its title is sometimes confused with the 2001 companion book, but the film is a substantially expanded narrative.
