What was the title of Johnny Cash's 1957 debut studio album?

The story behind the answer

Johnny Cash’s 1957 debut studio album was Johnny Cash with His Hot and Blue Guitar!

Released by Sun Records on October 11, 1957, the album collected recordings from Cash’s early Memphis period. It included four songs that had already established him as a major country and rockabilly performer: “Cry! Cry! Cry!,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line,” and “So Doggone Lonesome.”

The album grew out of Cash’s work with guitarist Luther Perkins and bassist Marshall Grant, the musicians Sam Phillips dubbed the Tennessee Two. Cash had auditioned for Phillips with gospel material, but returned with a more commercial sound after Phillips urged him to record songs suited to the market.

The title is sometimes shortened informally, and later reissues have used expanded subtitles or added bonus tracks. Those variations can make the album’s name look different in catalogs, but the original debut title is the long form stored here. The Fabulous Johnny Cash was his second studio album, released in 1958.
