J.K. Rowling's 2020 children's novel inspired by a story told to her children is The Ickabog.
The Ickabog is a standalone political fairy tale set in the fictional kingdom of Cornucopia. Its plot follows a kingdom threatened by the legendary Ickabog and examines power, propaganda, fear, and injustice through a child-focused adventure.
Rowling originally wrote the story for her own children while working on the Harry Potter books. In 2020, she published it online in installments during the COVID-19 pandemic and later released it as a print book.
The novel is separate from the Wizarding World. It does not feature Hogwarts, Harry Potter, or magic organized according to the rules of Rowling's earlier fantasy series. Proceeds from the book were directed toward supporting people affected by the pandemic.
