What was the title of J.K. Rowling’s 2017 play sequel to the Harry Potter novels?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was the title of J.K. Rowling’s 2017 play sequel to the Harry Potter novels.

The stage production is set nineteen years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry is an adult working at the Ministry of Magic, while his son Albus Severus begins at Hogwarts. The story focuses on their difficult relationship and on Albus’s friendship with Scorpius Malfoy.

The play was written by Jack Thorne, based on an original story by Thorne, Rowling, and director John Tiffany. Rowling was therefore a story creator and producer, but she did not write the stage script alone. Its published script appeared in 2016, while the West End production opened in London in 2016 and the play won the 2017 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play.

It is a theatrical sequel, not an eighth Harry Potter novel.
