Answer
Judge Not
Answer
Judge Not
Bob Marley's first recorded single was “Judge Not.” Marley recorded the song in 1962 at Federal Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, when he was about 16 years old.
The track was produced by Leslie Kong and released in Jamaica on Beverley's Records. It had a ska rhythm rather than the roots-reggae sound most associated with Marley’s later career. The song’s moral theme echoes the biblical warning against judging others.
“Judge Not” was not a major commercial success, but it marked the beginning of Marley’s professional recording career. Other songs from the same early session included “One Cup of Coffee,” “Do You Still Love Me?” and “Terror.”
A common mix-up is “Simmer Down,” the Wailers’ first major Jamaican hit. That song came later, in 1963–64, after Marley had begun working with Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh and producer Coxsone Dodd. “Judge Not” was later reissued on the 1992 box set Songs of Freedom.
