What was the title of aespa’s 2020 debut single?

aespa’s 2020 debut single was titled “Black Mamba.”

SM Entertainment released “Black Mamba” on November 17, 2020. The song introduced aespa’s electronic dance-pop sound and presented the group’s fictional universe, in which the members interact with digital avatar counterparts. Its title refers to the story’s antagonistic figure, Black Mamba.

The debut lineup consisted of Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning. The group’s name combines “avatar” and “experience,” with the letter “æ” also reflecting the relationship between the members and their avatars. This concept became a central feature of aespa’s early identity.

“Black Mamba” is often confused with “Next Level,” aespa’s 2021 single, or Savage, the group’s 2021 EP. Those releases came after the debut. “Black Mamba” therefore remains the precise answer when the question concerns aespa’s first single.
