What was the original title of the charity now known as Lumos?

The story behind the answer

The charity now known as Lumos was originally called the Children’s High Level Group.

J.K. Rowling co-founded the organization in 2005 with the former Member of the European Parliament Emma Nicholson. Its purpose was to improve the lives of children in institutional care and encourage governments to replace institutions with family and community-based support.

In 2010, the organization changed its name to Lumos. The new name was inspired by the Harry Potter spell associated with producing light, reflecting the charity’s stated aim of bringing children out of institutions and into safer family settings. The organization’s formal work remains focused on child welfare and deinstitutionalization.

The original name is easy to confuse with the organization’s founding date or its later public identity. Children’s High Level Group describes the charity at its launch; Lumos is the name it adopted five years later. Rowling has remained closely associated with the charity through her philanthropic work.
