What was the original official name of the 1924 Chamonix Winter Olympics?

The story behind the answer

The 1924 Chamonix Winter Olympics were originally called the International Winter Sports Week.

The event took place in Chamonix, France, from 25 January to 5 February 1924. The International Olympic Committee supported it as a winter sports festival, but the organizers did not initially use the title “Olympic Winter Games.”

Its program included 16 events across six sports: bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, skating, skiing and military patrol. The festival was considered successful enough that the IOC later recognized it as the first Winter Olympics.

This name is often confused with a formal Olympic title because later sources routinely call the event the 1924 Winter Olympics. The distinction matters historically: the Olympic designation was applied retrospectively at the 1925 IOC Congress.
