The website later known as Wizarding World was originally called Pottermore.
Pottermore launched in 2012 as an interactive digital platform for Harry Potter readers. It offered writing by Rowling, background information, sorting experiences, wand selection, and digital versions of the books. The site was developed with Sony and was initially presented as a major online home for the series.
The service expanded beyond Harry Potter as the wider Wizarding World franchise grew to include Fantastic Beasts films and other productions. In 2019, Pottermore's main website was replaced by WizardingWorld.com, with the broader Wizarding World branding used for the franchise.
Pottermore is sometimes confused with an in-story object or a fictional location. It was a real website and publishing platform, and its name was chosen for the digital fan experience rather than for a place within the novels.
