Soohorang was the official mascot of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Soohorang was designed as a white tiger, an animal strongly associated with Korean culture and symbolism. The name combines “sooho,” meaning protection in Korean, with “rang,” a word connected with tiger and with the traditional song “Arirang.” The mascot therefore represented both protection and Korea's cultural heritage.
The white tiger was selected to reflect the host nation's identity and the snowy mountain environment of the Games. Soohorang appeared on official merchandise, promotional material and Olympic branding throughout the 2018 event.
The Paralympic mascot was Bandabi, a black bear. This distinction is a common source of confusion: Soohorang belonged to the Olympic Games, while Bandabi represented the 2018 Winter Paralympics. PyeongChang 2018 was held in South Korea from 9 to 25 February 2018.
