J.K. Rowling’s website and online Harry Potter experience launched in 2012 was called Pottermore.
Pottermore opened to the public in April 2012 after an earlier limited registration period. It combined interactive features with new writing by Rowling, including background information about characters, places and wizarding traditions.
The site also let users progress through illustrated moments from the books, be sorted into a Hogwarts house and receive a wand. Its launch was closely connected with digital editions and audiobooks of the Harry Potter novels.
Pottermore was renamed Wizarding World Digital in 2019 as the wider Wizarding World brand developed. The original name is therefore associated with the early online platform, while Wizarding World is the later umbrella brand for Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts content.
