What was the name of J.K. Rowling’s 2008 collection of wizarding-world tales?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s 2008 collection of wizarding-world tales is The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

The book is presented as a collection of fairy tales familiar to wizarding children. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Albus Dumbledore leaves Hermione Granger a copy of the collection, and the tale “The Tale of the Three Brothers” becomes important to the plot.

The published edition includes five stories: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and “The Tale of the Three Brothers.” Each is followed by commentary attributed to Dumbledore.

Rowling wrote and illustrated the original manuscript. A limited set of handwritten copies was produced, and one was auctioned for charity. The commercial edition was published in 2008, with proceeds supporting the Children’s High Level Group, later renamed Lumos.
