What was the first Cormoran Strike novel by J.K. Rowling?

The story behind the answer

The first Cormoran Strike novel by J.K. Rowling was The Cuckoo’s Calling.

Published in 2013 under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, The Cuckoo’s Calling introduces Cormoran Strike, a private investigator who examines the death of model Lula Landry. Robin Ellacott also appears in the novel and becomes an important figure throughout the series.

The book was initially marketed as the work of an unknown former military policeman named Robert Galbraith. Rowling’s authorship became public several months after publication. The revelation caused a major increase in attention and sales, while the publisher continued issuing the book under the Galbraith name.

The later titles can be easy to mix up. The Silkworm is the second novel, followed by Career of Evil and Lethal White. The series has since expanded with additional books, but The Cuckoo’s Calling remains the starting point for Strike’s fictional investigations.
