What was the first Chevrolet vehicle to use the Equinox name?
Answer
Chevrolet Equinox
Answer
Chevrolet Equinox
The first Chevrolet vehicle to use the Equinox name was the Chevrolet Equinox compact crossover SUV.
Chevrolet introduced the Equinox for the 2005 model year. It was built on General Motors’ Theta platform and offered a car-based alternative to larger truck-based sport utility vehicles such as the Tahoe and Suburban.
The first-generation Equinox used a transverse-mounted V6 engine and front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available. Its size placed it between smaller cars and larger family SUVs, helping Chevrolet compete in the rapidly expanding crossover market.
The Equinox should not be confused with the Pontiac Torrent, which shared much of its basic architecture and arrived around the same time. Chevrolet has continued using the Equinox name through multiple generations, making it one of the brand’s enduring crossover nameplates.
