What was J.K. Rowling’s first Robert Galbraith novel?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s first Robert Galbraith novel was The Cuckoo’s Calling.

The crime novel was published in April 2013 under the name Robert Galbraith. It introduces Cormoran Strike, a private investigator and former military police officer, who examines the death of model Lula Landry with help from Robin Ellacott.

The book initially received attention as the work of an unknown debut novelist. Rowling’s connection to the pseudonym was revealed later in 2013. After the disclosure, the novel’s sales rose sharply and new editions identified Rowling as its real author while retaining Robert Galbraith as the series name.

The Cuckoo’s Calling begins the Strike sequence. The Silkworm is the second novel, followed by Career of Evil, Lethal White, Troubled Blood, The Ink Black Heart, and The Running Grave.
