KPop Demon Hunters uses 3D CGI animation throughout the film.
Although its visual style draws heavily from 2D aesthetics and anime facial expressions, the characters and environments were created as three-dimensional computer-generated imagery. The filmmakers wanted a bold graphic appearance while retaining the depth and movement of modern 3D animation.
The film’s style changes according to tone. Glamorous sequences use polished idol imagery, aggressive action scenes become more angular and line-heavy, and comedic moments can take on a chibi-like appearance. These shifts help the animation match the emotional rhythm of the story.
The animators also designed English-speaking characters with mouth shapes influenced by Korean language patterns. The result combines 3D production methods with visual references from anime, Korean dramas, concert lighting, editorial photography, and music videos.
