Shaun Pulfrey pitched hairbrushes on Dragon's Den with his company Tangle Teezer.
Pulfrey developed the Tangle Teezer as a detangling hairbrush designed to make brushing wet or tangled hair easier. He presented the product on Dragon's Den in 2007. The pitch did not lead to an investment from the panel, but the product later became commercially successful through retail sales and international distribution.
The company name can encourage a broad answer such as “beauty products,” but the specific category is hairbrushes. Tangle Teezer's distinctive selling point was the arrangement of flexible teeth intended to pass through tangles while reducing pulling on the hair.
This story is frequently cited as an example of a founder succeeding after leaving the programme without a Dragon's investment. A television rejection is not the same as a failed business: Pulfrey continued developing the brand, and Tangle Teezer became known well beyond the original broadcast.
