J.K. Rowling launched the Harry Potter website Pottermore in 2011.
Pottermore was announced in June 2011 and opened to the public in April 2012 after an earlier registration period. The site combined digital editions of the Harry Potter books with interactive features, including sorting users into Hogwarts houses and presenting new writing by Rowling.
Rowling used the platform to expand the fictional world with background information that was not included in the original novels. The site also became a major official channel for the release of e-books and audiobooks of the series.
Pottermore was renamed Wizarding World Digital in 2019 as part of a broader Wizarding World brand. The later Wizarding World website is therefore related to, but not the original name of, the fan platform Rowling launched in 2011.
