The mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette debuted for the 2020 model year.
Known internally as the C8, this generation moved the Corvette’s engine from its traditional front-mounted position to behind the passenger compartment. Chevrolet had explored mid-engine Corvette ideas for decades, but the C8 became the first production version to use that layout.
The change improved weight distribution and helped Chevrolet compete more directly with exotic sports cars. The first C8 was offered as the Stingray, with a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
A common mix-up is confusing the reveal date with the model year. Chevrolet unveiled the C8 in 2019, but it is identified as a 2020 model. Later C8 variants included the convertible, Z06, E-Ray and ZR1.
