"Chosen" is the 22nd episode of season seven and the 144th episode of the series overall. Written and directed by creator Joss Whedon, it originally aired on UPN on May 20, 2003. The episode brings Buffy’s central television story to a close with the battle against the First Evil and the activation of potential Slayers around the world.
The title is significant because Buffy and the potential Slayers must make a decisive choice about how the Slayer power is passed on. Rather than leaving the burden concentrated in one girl at a time, the finale changes the rules and gives every potential Slayer the chance to become active.
